Maine Coon Grooming Set | Cat Brush & Comb – The Cashmere Comb

How should I check my Maine Coon's ears?

Check your Maine Coon’s visible ears gently, recognise changes such as discharge or head shaking, and avoid inserting objects into the ear canal.

Look at the visible ear area during a calm routine check without inserting objects into the ear canal. Note unusual redness, discharge, smell, repeated scratching or head shaking, and contact your vet if you notice a change. Large furry ears do not need aggressive cleaning simply to look tidy. Cotton buds and unsuitable products can cause harm or push material further inside, so use only a method and product recommended for your cat. If you already have prescribed treatment, follow the instructions and ask the clinic to demonstrate if handling is difficult.

Keep a brief record of which ear is affected and when signs started. The purpose of an at-home check is to notice a problem early, not diagnose mites or infection from appearance alone. A comfortable cat should not have to tolerate repeated probing to complete a grooming routine. If treatment is prescribed, confirm which ear, how much product and how long to use it; do not reuse an old prescription for a different episode.
