Yes, placing a suitable bed near an established resting spot can be a practical way to introduce it. The familiar location may already have the quietness, view or temperature your cat prefers. Position the bed without removing access to the original spot so the cat can compare the options freely. Check that the new item does not narrow a route or require a different jump from the one the cat normally makes. If the favourite spot is elevated, use a bed or resting surface designed for that position rather than balancing an unsecured floor bed there. Keep the setup consistent long enough to observe normal use. A cat may still choose the original surface, which can tell you something about texture or enclosure preferences. The aim is to learn from the existing habit, not to replace every chosen resting place with a purchased bed.
If the preferred spot is one end of a sofa, placing a floor bed directly below does not reproduce the same height or view. Treat proximity as one factor, rather than assuming the two positions feel equivalent.
