Remove loose material carefully
Clear collected fur without bending teeth or pulling apart a padded head. Keep fingers away from cutting edges and points. Do not use another sharp tool to prise out debris unless the instructions specify a safe method.
Check for damage before washing
Look for bent teeth, loose parts, rough edges and corrosion. Cleaning does not repair damage. Stop using a tool that may catch the coat or scratch the skin and ask about an appropriate replacement.
Confirm what can get wet
Do not soak every item because one silicone component is washable. Follow the instructions for handles, joints and brush cushions, including drying. Avoid boiling, dishwashing or strong disinfectants without confirmed compatibility.
Store clean and dry
Keep tools where the cat cannot chew them or become caught in them. If a skin infection or parasite problem is being treated, ask the veterinary team about the required cleaning and whether tools should be kept separate between cats.
