Provide both hiding and lookout spaces by offering different levels of exposure, not by expecting one bed to satisfy every mood. A large open platform lets a cat observe its surroundings, while a suitably sized den or sheltered bed offers somewhere less visible. These can be part of one structure if access remains comfortable, or separate items placed around the room. Check that the hidden space has enough room for the cat to enter, turn and settle without squeezing.
Position it where people will not frequently reach inside or walk directly past the opening. The lookout needs a stable surface and a manageable way down. In a shared home, another cat should not be able to control both options from one narrow connecting step. Let the cat decide which to use. Choosing privacy at one time and a more open perch later is a useful expression of choice, not inconsistency.
A Koda Pod offers a tent-style retreat, whereas an open tower bed leaves a wider view of the room. These are different functions rather than interchangeable beds, so locate each where its level of exposure suits the intended use.
