A tree near the family's usual sitting area can suit a cat that likes to observe people or rest nearby, but it should still provide some distance from constant disturbance. Place it where the cat can watch without being repeatedly touched, walked past closely or startled by movement. Avoid positioning a sleeping bed directly beside a speaker, television sound source or frequently slammed door. Some cats prefer quieter rooms, so use the cat's existing choices as a guide rather than assuming sociability means wanting the busiest possible position.
In a multi-cat home, also consider whether one animal dominates the family room and another needs an alternative elsewhere. Keep a quiet retreat available even when the tree is in a shared space. The best location supports voluntary company: the cat can join household activity, remain slightly removed from it and leave comfortably whenever it wants.
A position beside the seating area can allow observation without placing the tower in the walking route between the sofa and door. Keep another quieter bed available if visitors, children or evening activity change how comfortable that location feels.
