Plush Rectangular Cat Bed, 4 Sizes – The Velvet Nest

Do cats think humans are cats?

We cannot know whether cats categorise humans as cats. Focus on observable comfort signals, predictable routines and respectful interaction.

We cannot know a cat's internal concept of a human well enough to give a simple yes or no. Cats use some social behaviours with people that they also use in other contexts, but that does not prove they mistake us for their own species. For everyday care, the more useful question is how your cat responds to your actions. Learn its approach, avoidance and comfort signals rather than relying on a theory about what category it places you in.

Calm movement, predictable routines and allowing distance can help interactions feel safe. Avoid using dominance ideas or pretending to act like an aggressive cat to control behaviour. You do not need to settle a question about feline self-awareness to meet practical needs. Observe the individual, respond consistently and seek qualified advice when communication repeatedly breaks down. Notice whether an interaction ends with the cat approaching again or avoiding you; that practical feedback is more useful than testing a theory about its thoughts.

For product comparisons alongside this advice, see Velvet Nest and Sterling Court litter tray. The details below explain their sizes and uses.
