A healthy adult Maine Coon may manage an ordinary workday alone. Cats Protection advises around 12 hours as an occasional maximum for many adult cats, not a routine daily target. Kittens, cats needing medication and cats with particular health or behavioural needs require a different plan. Look at the full routine, including commuting time and repeated long days, rather than counting only working hours. Make sure food, water, toileting and safe resting needs are met, and arrange a suitable person to visit when the gap is too long.
Before leaving, remove hazards such as loose strings and check that doors cannot accidentally shut the cat away from essentials. Spend meaningful time with your cat when home, but avoid assuming a new tower will compensate for an unsuitable care schedule. If you are unsure what your own cat can manage, discuss its circumstances with your vet.
