An occasional overnight absence may suit some healthy adults, but count the full time away. Cats Protection gives around 12 hours as an occasional maximum for many cats; individual needs can require much less. A healthy adult's occasional short absence is different from leaving a kitten, an unwell cat or an animal needing timed medication. Count the whole time from departure to return. If that crosses feeding or care needs, arrange a person to attend or stay.
Even when a cat normally sleeps while you are away, you cannot assume it will remain well or that equipment will keep working. For repeated overnight absences, establish a consistent care arrangement rather than making exceptions each time. A sitter who knows normal hiding spots, habits and warning signs offers something technology cannot: direct observation and the ability to act if the cat needs help.
