Separate surface wear from structural concerns
Look at the scratching covering, platforms, support columns, fasteners and base as separate parts. A replacement post should match more than its visible length. The connection type, diameter, internal construction and intended position can matter. Ask the manufacturer to confirm the correct part for your model. Do not assume that a similar-looking component from another brand is interchangeable. Keep improvised repairs out of load-bearing joints
Avoid patching a support or using a different screw simply because it appears to fit. Follow the manufacturer's repair and assembly guidance. Adhesives, exposed staples and loose lengths of cord can introduce new problems, so a decorative repair is not automatically a safe one. If the seller cannot confirm a repair for structural damage, replacing the affected furniture may be the clearer route.
Consider the parts that are still useful
If the issue is a replaceable scratching surface, ask about the part, fitting instructions and total cost before discarding the full piece. If the furniture was already a poor fit, a repair may not resolve that original problem. Make two notes: what needs fixing and what you would change if buying again. Keep them separate so you do not confuse maintenance with a new sizing decision.
