Place a mat beneath an automatic litter tray only if the exact model's instructions permit that supporting surface. A mat positioned in front of the entrance is a different arrangement from one carrying the unit's feet or base.
Check what the unit must stand on
Ask for the installation instructions for The Bothy or your selected model. Confirm whether it needs a hard, level floor and whether every support point must contact the same surface. Do not use a soft mat to correct rocking or an uneven base.
The current Bothy listing gives external dimensions of 48cm wide × 56cm high × 48cm deep. Those figures help mark its body outline but do not define the permitted floor covering or servicing clearance.
Keep a front mat out of the operating area
If the instructions allow a litter-catching mat in front, check that it does not overlap a moving component, cover a sensor, interfere with an entrance step or stop a drawer or panel opening. Keep curled edges out of the cat's approach and the household walking route.
Protect the cable and cleaning route
Do not trap a power lead beneath the mat or unit. Keep electrical connections away from cleaning water and follow the specified isolation steps. Our socket and cable guide covers the complete route.
Check floor care separately
A waterproof label on a mat would not make the whole arrangement waterproof or establish compatibility with a particular floor finish. Follow the floor manufacturer's guidance for backed mats and check the hidden surface regularly where permitted.
Ask before changing a working installation
If the unit already operates on an approved surface, do not slide a new layer under it while powered or full of litter. Follow the model's instructions for emptying, moving and setup. After any permitted change, complete the required setup checks before restoring access.
A useful question to Giant Paws is: “May this exact unit stand on this mat material and thickness, or should the mat sit only beyond the entrance?” Keep the written answer with the manual rather than transferring it to another automatic litter tray.
