Explore furniture for large cats
The Chausie was developed from domestic cats and the jungle cat, Felis chaus. TICA granted championship status in May 2013. Its breed description emphasises a tall, lean, long-legged body and an active, curious temperament. Read TICA's Chausie profile.
TICA describes the adult male as medium to large, around 15lb (6.8kg), with females smaller. That is a reference description, not a maximum or an ideal weight for every Chausie. A breed weight estimate cannot confirm whether an enclosed bed, platform or litter tray will fit.
Chausies are often sociable and interested in exploring, learning and playing. Plan daily interaction and adapt play sessions to your cat's enthusiasm and stamina. A fixed number of minutes is not a substitute for observing whether their needs are being met.
Offer a choice of scratching surfaces, resting places and interactive activities. Keep routes between platforms clear and make sure the descent is comfortable too. Secure household hazards and supervise unfamiliar toys. Introduce pets gradually; another cat is not automatically the right solution for a cat who needs more interaction.
The short coat is generally straightforward to maintain, with occasional gentle combing described by TICA. Check the coat and skin regularly and adjust grooming to your cat's needs.
Feed a complete food appropriate to life stage, provide fresh water and monitor body condition alongside activity. Do not infer a special diet solely from wild ancestry. If your cat has digestive symptoms or needs a diet change for health reasons, speak to your vet. Cats Protection explains complete foods and feeding.
Discuss routine preventive care and the cat's individual history with your vet. Avoid treating a breed label as either a diagnosis or a guarantee of good health. Changes in appetite, weight, toileting or movement deserve attention; do not assume they are normal consequences of hybrid ancestry.
Before acquiring a cat with recent wild ancestry, establish its documented ancestry and check the requirements that apply where you live. GOV.UK explains that hybrid animals may need a licence depending on their distance from a wild ancestor and directs uncertain owners to their local council. A breed name alone is not enough to settle the position for an individual cat.
Our size guide helps organise those measurements. Contact Giant Paws if a required dimension or specification is missing.
| Purpose | Giant Paws options | Before you choose |
|---|---|---|
| Climbing and resting | The Feline Sovereign Spire, The Cat-Cave and The Taj-MeowHall | Compare platform dimensions, access and installation instructions. Height does not establish suitability for an active cat. |
| Litter facilities | The Bothy — ask about this product | Confirm entrance and internal usable space, plus the exact model's age, weight and operating requirements. Do not use a breed weight range as approval to use an automatic tray. |
| Scratching and play | The Paw-villian and Scratch Central | Check dimensions, intended use and your cat's preferred scratching position. |
| A separate bed | The Velvet Nest | Compare the selected variant's usable sleeping area with your cat's resting measurements. |

Check the individual cat's documented ancestry and ask your local authority about applicable requirements before acquiring it. Hybrid ancestry can affect licensing, so a breed name alone does not establish the answer.
TICA describes a lean, long-legged, medium-to-large cat. Use your own cat's measurements when buying furniture; reference weights do not determine fit.
Plan daily interaction and opportunities to play and explore, adapting sessions to the individual cat. There is no single playtime target in this guide that guarantees their needs are met.
Check the entrance and usable interior against the individual cat, and confirm all operating requirements for the exact model. External capacity or a breed weight estimate is not sufficient.
