Explore furniture for large cats
The Pixiebob, often written Pixie-Bob, is a domestic breed developed in the northwestern United States to resemble a bobcat. TICA describes a muscular, medium-to-large cat available in shorthaired and longhaired varieties. Its championship status began with TICA's 1998 show season. Read TICA's Pixiebob profile.
TICA gives males at 12–17lb (about 5.4–7.7kg) and females at 8–12lb (about 3.6–5.4kg). These reference ranges are not ideal-weight targets or guarantees of an individual cat's size.
Compare usable furniture dimensions with your cat's sleeping position and ability to turn comfortably. Do not choose a shallower enclosed bed simply because the tail is short. External dimensions can include walls, padding and other space the cat cannot use. Our size guide helps you record the measurements that matter.
Pixie-Bobs are often described as social and playful. Some enjoy learning games such as fetch, but individual interests vary. Offer daily interaction, scratching surfaces and comfortable resting places. Introduce other pets gradually and supervise children's interactions, allowing the cat to move away freely. A sociable breed description does not establish how long a particular cat will be comfortable alone.
Polydactyl means having more than the usual number of toes. Most cats have five on each front paw and four on each back paw; those normal counts are not polydactyly. Not every Pixie-Bob has extra toes. Cats Protection explains extra toes.
Inspect every claw, including less obvious claws between extra toes. The GCCF notes that extra claws may not wear down and can cause damage. Ask a vet or veterinary nurse to show you safe checking and trimming, and agree a frequency for your cat rather than relying on a fixed two-to-three-week schedule. A painful, embedded or damaged claw needs veterinary attention.
Adapt grooming to coat length, tangles and shedding. Short, gentle sessions are easier to build into a routine. The RSPCA advises that many long-haired cats need daily grooming. Seek help for tight mats or sore skin rather than cutting close to the skin with scissors.
Choose a complete food suitable for life stage, provide fresh water and monitor body condition as well as weight. A substantial frame is not a reason to overlook weight gain. See Cats Protection's feeding guidance.
Discuss preventive care and any relevant health history with your vet. This guide does not prescribe a universal cardiac-screening schedule or treat a breed label as a diagnosis. Changes in eating, movement, grooming or toileting deserve individual assessment.
| Purpose | Options | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Climbing and resting | The Cat-Cave, The Ultimate PawHouse and The Taj-MeowHall | Platform size, enclosed-space dimensions, access routes and model-specific load and anchoring instructions. |
| Litter facilities | The Bothy — ask about this product | Entrance and internal usable space, plus the exact model's age, weight and operating requirements. Breed averages do not confirm suitability. |
| Scratching and play | The Paw-villian and Scratch Central | Surface dimensions and your cat's preferred scratching position. A scratcher does not replace checking extra claws. |
| A separate bed | The Velvet Nest | Selected variant's usable sleeping area against your cat's relaxed position, allowing for the raised edge. |

It means having extra toes beyond the usual number. Normal cats generally have five toes on each front paw and four on each back paw.
No. Check the individual cat's paws rather than assuming they have extra toes from the breed name.
No. Measure the cat's comfortable resting and turning space, then compare the usable interior and entrance of the bed.
TICA describes the Pixiebob as a domestic breed developed to resemble a North American bobcat. Appearance alone does not make it a wild cat.
