Can a Cat Tree Sit Beside a Bookcase or Tall Cabinet?

A cat tree beside a bookcase can make the bookcase part of the climbing route. Assess both pieces together before assuming the gap between them is harmless.

A tall cat tower changes which nearby surfaces a cat may reach.

Check the tall furniture first

Follow the cabinet manufacturer’s anti-tip and wall-fixing instructions. Remove unstable objects, trailing cables and breakables from reachable shelves and the top. Do not use a freestanding tower to brace another item.

Measure every gap

A narrow space can catch a limb or make cleaning and inspection difficult. A wider gap may invite a jump with a poor landing. View the route from each platform, including the way back down.

Keep the cat tree independent

Assemble and secure the tree exactly as instructed on a level surface. Do not attach it to a bookcase unless both manufacturers explicitly approve the connection. Recheck fixings after moving either item.

Use our cat-furniture floor-plan guide to map clearances. The Cream Estate is a tall multi-level tower; its placement should account for every newly reachable surface nearby.
