A Chipped Ceramic Cat Bowl: What to Check Before the Next Meal

A bowl can come out of the wash looking clean while still having a chipped rim or cracked base. Check its condition before returning it to the feeding area. If you find damage, set it aside and use an intact suitable bowl while you decide on a replacement.

Inspect in good light

Look around the rim, the inside and the base. Do not run your finger along a sharp-looking edge to test it. If the bowl has been dropped, check the surrounding floor for fragments before the cat returns. A photograph can help explain the damage when contacting the seller.

Avoid a makeshift repair

Do not patch the eating surface with household glue, tape or a decorative coating. A repair product's appearance does not establish suitability for this use. Ask the manufacturer about the exact item if you are uncertain; where safe repair cannot be confirmed, an intact replacement is the clearer option.

Match a replacement to the stand

If the bowl sits in a frame, check the opening, rim and depth as well as the bowl's outer diameter. The Kitty Buffet uses ceramic bowls in a bamboo stand. Do not assume a similarly sized bowl from another range will sit securely in it. Ask about exact replacement availability.

Check the rest of the routine

Look for an uneven surface, a cramped cupboard or a place where the bowl is often knocked. Moving the feeding position may prevent another accidental fall, but keep the cat's access and routine in mind. Follow each component's care instructions rather than washing the stand as though it were ceramic.

Choose a replacement by use

A single bowl such as the Purr-celain has a different construction from a removable stand bowl. Compare the current dimensions and intended position. Neither material nor price removes the need for ordinary condition checks.

Contact Giant Paws about a replacement for a specific item, or compare intact feeding options in the current collection.
