A Draughty Cat Bed Spot: Check the Room Before Adding More Padding

A soft bed can still sit in an uncomfortable draught. Before adding layers, check the actual position at the time your cat uses it. Cold air from a frequently opened door or a poorly sealed window may make another suitable spot more appealing.

Check at bed level

Feel for draughts around the resting area and look for dampness beneath or beside the bed. Compare the room when doors are being used and after the heating changes. A warm feeling at standing height does not describe every low-level corner.

Offer another suitable position

Keep the cat's route and preferred privacy in mind when moving or adding a resting option. Let the cat choose it. Do not place the bed directly against a heater or obstruct ventilation to make the corner warmer.

Use bedding according to its care instructions

Keep bedding dry and suitable for the cat's habits. Added blankets should not block an enclosed entrance or create loose material the cat chews. An ordinary plush bed is not an electrically heated product and should not be described as one.

Get advice for individual needs

Cats Protection recommends warm, dry resting options in cold weather. If your cat has particular health or mobility needs, ask your vet about the appropriate arrangement. Avoid improvised heating devices or human electric blankets without a product-specific, suitable use.

Compare the sizes and care details of The Velvet Nest. Choose the room position first, then check that the bed fits without compromising access.
