Keep cats out of the room while cleaning products are being used, follow the exact label and do not let them return until treated surfaces are dry and the room is safely ventilated. Store bottles, capsules and buckets behind a secure door or lock.
Plan where the cat will wait
Set up another room with water, a litter tray, a resting place and anything else the cat needs before opening the cleaner. Shut the cat away first; trying to manage a wet floor and a curious cat at the same time creates avoidable risk.
PDSA advises following product instructions and keeping pets away until cleaned areas have dried. “Pet safe” is not a reason to ignore dilution, contact-time or rinsing directions.
Control the less obvious routes
- Empty and rinse mop buckets after use.
- Close toilet lids and bathroom doors when cleaners are present.
- Keep laundry capsules and sprays in secured storage.
- Ventilate strong fumes as directed.
- Wash hands before touching food bowls, toys or the cat.
Cats groom their paws and coats, so residue can be swallowed after walking across a surface. Do not spray a product onto or beside an occupied cat bed, scratching post or feeding station.

If contact may have happened
Remove access to the product and contact a vet promptly. Keep the packaging or photograph the label so the veterinary team knows the exact substance and concentration. Do not make the cat vomit or apply another chemical unless a veterinary professional instructs you.
Direct answer: separation, label-following, drying, ventilation and secure storage matter more than marketing words on the bottle.
