For a healthy adult Maine Coon, two scheduled meals are a reasonable starting point; some cats suit several smaller servings of the same daily allowance. Kittens usually need more frequent meals. There is no special Maine Coon rule that means every cat should eat a fixed number of times or receive unlimited food because the breed is large.
Start with age, then adjust the routine
Cornell's feline feeding guidance recommends three meals a day for kittens under six months, generally twice daily from six months to a year, and says once or twice daily can suit many adults. These are general starting points, not instructions for unweaned kittens or cats with an individual veterinary feeding plan. Cats Protection also highlights cats' preference for small, frequent meals.

More meals should mean smaller portions
Separate the questions “How much per day?” and “How often?”. Establish the daily amount for the exact food and your cat with the packet guidance and veterinary advice where needed. Then divide that amount between the planned servings. Moving from two meals to four does not mean offering four full-sized meals.
For example, if a cat already has an agreed daily allowance, put that day's measured food aside before serving the first portion. Each later meal comes from that allocation. This makes it easier for two people sharing feeding duties to avoid adding an accidental second dinner.
Make the schedule usable at home
Write down the morning and evening feeding windows, who handles each one and where the day's allowance is recorded. If smaller meals suit your cat, work out how the extra servings will actually be offered. Any timed feeder must be suitable for the food and used within its storage and cleaning instructions.

Does a big appetite mean a Maine Coon needs another meal?
Not automatically. Look at what has actually been offered and eaten. A new increase or reduction in appetite deserves veterinary advice; do not dismiss it as a breed trait. Cats with prescribed diets, pregnancy-related needs or illness need an individual plan, including timing.
