If the stand must fit a narrow shelf or feeding nook, request those measurements rather than calculating them from the three published numbers.

Do not subtract two bowl diameters from 40cm
Two 14cm bowls account for 28cm of diameter, leaving a mathematical difference of 12cm. That 12cm is not a confirmed centre gap or edge clearance. It could be distributed between the outer ends, the space between bowls and parts of the bamboo frame. The bowl rims may also sit partly above or beyond the supporting openings.
Request four horizontal measurements
Ask for a top-down measurement or labelled diagram showing:
- the complete outside width at the widest point, including fitted bowl rims;
- the distance between the centres of the two fitted bowls;
- the clear edge-to-edge gap between the bowl rims;
- the distance from each outer bowl rim to the nearest outside edge of the stand.
These answer different questions. Centre spacing helps you reproduce the layout on paper, while the outside width determines whether the assembled feeding station clears a wall, cupboard return or shelf.
Keep the support openings separate
The supplied ceramic bowls are listed at 14cm diameter and 5cm deep, but the bamboo support openings are not dimensioned. Their width is relevant when checking a compatible replacement bowl; it should not be inferred from the spacing between the fitted bowls. A rim can rest above an opening that is smaller than the bowl's widest point.
Add working clearance
Even a stand that fits inside a 40cm-wide space may need more room for hands to lift both removable bowls. Check nearby cupboard doors, skirting, splashbacks and any feeding mat. Record the product width and your desired working clearance as separate figures so one is not mistaken for the other.
Use a simple pre-order question
Ask: “Does the stated 40cm include the fitted bowl rims, and what are the centre-to-centre spacing, clear gap and widest assembled width?” Request that the answer refers to the current selected style. A photograph without a labelled scale cannot confirm those distances.
