Define the replaceable boundary
In a bespoke cat furniture brief, mark exactly which scratching area is intended to be replaced. Give it a component name and dimensions on the approved drawing. Distinguish the replaceable finish from any load-bearing post, panel or backing.
Record the approved attachment method
Ask how the panel or covering will be retained and which removal and refitting instructions will be supplied. Do not assume exposed staples, adhesive or a home-wrapped rope repair will be appropriate. The approved method should protect the surrounding finish and preserve the furniture's intended assembly.
Plan access for the future task
Check whether the panel can be reached without dismantling unrelated levels or moving an unsafe weight. Record the working space and any tools or professional help specified. A hidden fixing can look elegant but still needs a practical service route.
Ask what identifies a replacement
Keep the material, colour, thickness, component reference and attachment details with the order. Ask whether replacements are supplied to the exact design or whether a later bespoke enquiry will be needed. Do not promise future stock or an unchanged colour unless the quote confirms it.
