An extra blanket may make a resting place more familiar, but it also takes up space. Before adding one, look at the bed as your cat uses it: the entrance, the area inside raised sides and the room available to stretch. More padding is not automatically a better fit.
Keep the sleeping area usable
Lay the blanket as intended and check whether it bunches into a mound or fills the entry. A bed that already fits closely may become cramped with another layer. Do not use a blanket to disguise a damaged base or an unsuitable size.
Choose a suitable textile
Use a clean, intact item without loose loops, fraying or accessible cords. Check how it should be washed. If your cat chews or swallows fabric, seek veterinary advice and do not leave that material available. A familiar textile should still be safe for the individual cat to use.
Observe the choice

Keep the care requirements separate
The bed and blanket may have different washing and drying instructions. Follow both rather than treating them as one washable package.
