A fireside bed may look inviting in a room photograph, but a picture cannot establish a safe distance from your appliance. Plan the bed around the fireplace or heater instructions, with room for the cat to leave the warm area whenever they choose.
Start with the appliance instructions
Check the required clearance from combustible materials and anything that could obstruct the appliance. Soft bedding and a cat tower are not exceptions because they are intended for pets. If the instructions are missing or unclear, ask the manufacturer or a competent installer rather than choosing a distance from a styled photograph.
Keep the fire appropriately guarded
Cats Protection advises screening open fireplaces and supervising cats when a fire is lit. A bed position does not replace that precaution. Consider where a cat could land after stepping out of the bed, and whether a nearby platform brings them closer to the fire or another hot surface.
Allow a cooler alternative
Do not make the warmest corner the cat's only resting choice. Keep another suitable place available away from the heat. Watch the room during normal use, including when people move chairs, bring in logs or adjust a portable heater. The arrangement should remain workable beyond the moment it is first set out.
Keep product care separate from warmth claims
The Velvet Nest is a soft bed, not a heat shield. Do not add an electric pad or place bedding over a heater without instructions confirming that exact use. Choose the bed size and care routine on their own merits, then find an appropriate position for it.
