A tunnel can offer a sheltered pause within a larger piece of furniture. For a large cat, the entrance is only part of the assessment: consider the full passage, the approach at each end and how you will reach inside to clean it.
Separate the opening from the outside diameter
Ask for the smallest clear opening and the usable interior length. Decorative rims, lining and joins can reduce the space inside. A dimension across the outside of the cylinder does not establish the room available to the cat.
Follow the whole journey
Identify where the cat stands before entering and where the exit leads. Ask whether the passage is open at both ends and whether either end becomes obstructed in the proposed room position. Do not rely on a perspective photograph to judge the gap between neighbouring components.
Plan access for care
Find out whether a pad or liner is removable and which surfaces can be reached without dismantling the furniture. Check the specified cleaning method. A tunnel tucked between other components can be harder to inspect than the same feature shown on its own.
Use a specific reference
