A product photograph is useful for understanding shape and layout. It is less reliable as a measuring tool. Camera angle, the size of the cat in the picture and the way a product is framed can all affect your impression. Use the image to form questions, then answer them with the specification.
Read each dimension's endpoints
Check whether a labelled width describes the base, the widest platform or the full outer span. A height may include a toy or decorative feature. Do not assume that three numbers describe every usable part. The Paw-villian, for example, has a shaped layout: its overall dimensions are different from the uninterrupted area available for scratching.
Ask about the inside of enclosed spaces
A condo's exterior does not establish its internal floor area or entrance size. Walls and padding take up space, and a camera may not show the interior clearly. Ask for those measurements if they matter to your cat. For a bed, distinguish outer dimensions from the sleeping area inside raised sides.
Check that the picture matches the selected option
A listing may show several sizes or colours in one gallery. Read the selected variant before adding the item to your basket. Compare the image labels with the option name and written specification. If they appear inconsistent, ask for clarification rather than choosing whichever detail seems most favourable.
Look for the route between levels
Trace how a cat would reach each resting place. A front view can hide the depth between platforms or the opening through an upper level. Ask for another angle if the route is unclear. Do not infer a load rating, fixing method or degree of stability from a photograph of cats sitting on the piece.
Treat styled accessories separately
Identify what the product description explicitly includes. A room scene may contain cushions, plants or other objects that are not part of the item. For a bespoke design example, ask which pictured details are included in your proposed specification. The design conversation is the place to confirm changes, rather than assuming the photograph is a fixed package.
Make a short evidence list
Before ordering, write down the dimensions that matter, the selected option and any answers received from the seller. If a crucial point remains unknown, pause the purchase until it is clear. This is especially useful for an item that must fit a particular alcove or accommodate a cat that dislikes enclosed spaces.
