The height in each Velvet Nest size is an overall product measurement, not a confirmed entrance or step-over height. The current listing describes raised sides but does not publish the lowest point a cat crosses to enter. Ask for that separate measurement if access matters.
Read the four heights as outer dimensions
The listed overall sizes are 50 × 45 × 15cm, 64 × 53 × 17cm, 76 × 61 × 18cm and 90 × 68 × 21cm. The final number increases with size, but it does not tell you whether the perimeter is the same height all the way around or whether there is a lower entry section.
Ask for the step-over measurement
Request the vertical distance from the supporting floor to the lowest usable entrance point with the bed in its normal shape. If there is no defined entrance, ask for the lowest and highest side measurements instead. A front-facing photograph is helpful only when paired with a labelled scale.
Keep internal sleeping space separate
Raised sides reduce the space available inside the outer length and width. Ask for the usable internal floor dimensions for the selected size rather than subtracting a guessed side thickness. Soft filling can also change shape during use, so follow the maker's measurement method.
Include the floor beneath the bed
A thick mat changes the installed step height, even though the Velvet Nest itself has not changed. Check that the non-slip base is appropriate for the clean, dry surface and observe whether the bed moves during ordinary voluntary use.
Choose for the individual cat
Compare the confirmed entrance and internal measurements with a bed or open resting area the cat already chooses. Do not force a cat over a mock barrier. If access is affected by pain, injury or another health condition, ask a veterinary professional what arrangement is appropriate.
