Hidden fixings in bespoke cat furniture should be shown on the approved drawing with a named access point, removable cover and enough clearance for the stated inspection or tool. “Concealed” should describe the finished appearance, not make future checks impossible.
Separate the fixing from its cover
Give the structural fixing and cosmetic cover different component names. Record how the cover is released and whether any trim, pad or neighbouring panel must be removed first. A photograph of the completed piece may not reveal that sequence.
Show the inspection line
On the drawing, mark where a person looks or reaches to inspect the connection. State whether the access is from the front, side, top or rear. Check the planned room position: an access point on the back is of little use if the installed furniture cannot be moved away from the wall safely.
Allow for the actual tool
If the agreed maintenance information names a tool, confirm there is clearance to position and turn it. Record the fastener type and size in the handover notes. Do not substitute a different fastener or enlarge an opening after delivery without approval from the maker.
Keep service panels distinct from cat routes
An inspection cover should not be mistaken for a platform, step or scratching part. Ask how it remains closed during normal use and whether opening it requires the furniture to be taken out of service. Follow the supplied sequence and keep cats away while any cover or fixing is exposed.
