A bespoke cat furniture dimension should state what its endpoints represent. Label overall, clear-opening, usable-surface and centre-to-centre measurements separately so the same number is not read as both an outer size and the space available to the cat.
Use overall dimensions for the room
Overall width, depth and height should reach the furthest fixed points of the completed design. Identify whether removable or projecting parts are included. Add installation and operating clearance as separate notes rather than hiding it inside an unexplained total.
Use clear dimensions for openings
A clear opening is the unobstructed route between finished edges. For a condo, tunnel or arch, mark the narrowest width and height after lining, trim and thresholds are installed. Do not substitute the distance between outer walls.
Use usable dimensions for resting surfaces
Show the area available inside any rim, post, support or upholstered edge. If a pad sits in a recess, give the recess and pad measurements separately. A platform's decorative outline may be larger than the level surface a cat can occupy.
Use centre-to-centre only when it is needed
Spacing between posts or fixings can be shown from their centre lines, but the drawing must say so. Centre-to-centre spacing does not state the clear gap between components. Keep these technical construction dimensions distinct from the measurements used to assess the cat's route.
Draw the endpoints
Place extension lines or labelled arrows on the controlled drawing and include units on every schedule. A phrase in a message such as “make it 40cm” is incomplete when neither direction nor endpoints are defined. Confirm any revised number on the final approved version.
Compare ready-made listings carefully
The Cat-Cave lists a 210cm overall height and a 110 × 75cm footprint, but those outer numbers do not describe its condo interior or platform surfaces. Ready-made and bespoke measurements should be compared only when they describe the same thing.
