A cat tower’s supported load is specific to its design and installation. Before buying, ask for the rating and instructions for the exact model and configuration you are considering. A breed name, photograph or overall height is not a substitute for that information.
Send these questions to the supplier
- What is the stated maximum load, and where is it documented?
- Does it apply to one platform, a hammock, an enclosed condo or the complete structure?
- Are there separate limits for individual resting areas?
- What use and test conditions does the rating cover? Does the documentation address jumping or repeated use?
- Is wall, floor or ceiling attachment required, and which surfaces and fixings are suitable?
- What inspections, maintenance and replacement parts does the manufacturer specify?
Match the answer to your household
Give the supplier each cat’s weight and explain whether cats may use the same resting area together. Also describe the planned installation location. For a wall-mounted or ceiling-supported model, ask about the supporting surface before ordering.
Check usable perch and condo dimensions separately. A supported-load figure does not tell you whether your cat can turn, stretch or enter comfortably. Our size guide explains which spaces to measure.
What to do when a rating is missing
Ask for written clarification before deciding whether the tower suits your cat. Do not infer a tested limit from the words “XL”, “heavy duty” or “for Maine Coons”, and do not create your own rating by comparing the tower’s weight with your cat’s.
