Choose furniture for your British Shorthair by the cat’s actual measurements and needs. Breed names and descriptions such as “stocky” do not establish a furniture rating or tell you which perch will fit.
Measure fit and check capacity separately
Record your cat’s weight, body length and preferred resting position. Compare those with the usable dimensions of beds, platforms and enclosed spaces. Then check the manufacturer’s documented load limits for the exact model and its individual components.
A compact body shape does not, by itself, prove that one cat puts more stress on a structure than another cat of the same weight. Landing conditions, the structure and its installation matter. Avoid turning a breed description into an engineering rule.
Questions to ask before buying
- Can your cat enter, turn and rest in the available space?
- Does the rating apply to each perch or the whole structure?
- What assembly and mounting arrangements are required?
- Are access routes appropriate for your cat’s mobility?
- What inspections and maintenance are specified?
